RetroWAL™ blast window retrofit is truly one of a kind in terms of blast mitigation – it is the only window retrofit available in the United States that uses dynamic loading to prevent glass from shattering and entering the building. Our blast window systems utilize a balanced design and patented compression release technology™ in order to withstand high pressure without the need for steel structural reinforcements.
The principles behind RetroWAL™’s design:
Our balanced design approach to our blast window takes into account:
- the forces applied to window on glass
- how glass force is transferred to frame
- how the blast energy is transferred to the wall, floor, and ceiling structure of building.
Blast windows obviously require a strong glass that doesn’t easily penetrate upon a blast force, but the glass is ineffective if not held down properly. This is why traditional blast window design uses very heavy glass and structural steel reinforcement around window frame: the heavy blast glazing on the glass is a rigid body and transfers all of the blast pressure impulse to the frame of the window. To negate the need for heavy structural steel framing, Thermolite uses our patented compression release technology™ , which defers the last pressure transfer until the negative phase of the blast pressure wave occurs.
Our unique dynamic blast window results in a lower total project cost and a much faster installation time.
- Reduces installation time by over 90%
- Reduces total cost by over 50%
RetroWAL™ is considered among the best blast window systems because it is used on the interior of existing windows. The existing wall can remain intact because there is no need to place steel inside of the window frame, unlike most other blast window retrofit products. It installs in 1 or 2 hours in typical situations and we meet and exceed all GSA and DOD blast levels.
When RetroWAL™ blast security window systems are used, it means is lower cost, higher ROI, larger window openings, pain-free installation—all with the highest level of security possible and with the most exceptional energy performance in the industry today. In addition, installation can be performed discreetly on the interior of your building and during hours that are convenient for you.
